Unit Overview
The Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK) is the special forces unit of the German Army (Bundeswehr), established to fill the gap left by the dissolution of Cold War-era special forces units after German reunification.
Modeled after the British SAS and U.S. Delta Force, the KSK specializes in counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, direct action, and personnel recovery. The unit operates with extreme secrecy and is considered one of Europe’s most capable special forces.

Major Deployments
KSK operators deployed to Afghanistan, conducting reconnaissance and direct action missions against Taliban and Al-Qaeda targets.
Deployment to northern Iraq to train and advise Kurdish Peshmerga forces fighting against ISIS.
Ongoing operations in Iraq and Syria, including reconnaissance and targeting missions against remaining ISIS elements.
CLASSIFIED: Selection & Structure
KSK selection lasts approximately 3 months and includes extreme physical endurance tests, psychological evaluation, and survival training. Successful candidates undergo a 2-year training program covering languages, advanced medical training, demolitions, sniper skills, and specialized insertion methods.
The unit is organized into 4 commando companies, each with specialized capabilities: 1st Company (Air), 2nd Company (Land), 3rd Company (Water), and 4th Company (Mountain/Arctic). Each company contains approximately 80 operators divided into 4 platoons of 20 men each, with further specialization into reconnaissance, sniper, and assault teams.
