Unit Overview
The United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), commonly referred to as SEAL Team Six, is the U.S. Navy’s principal counter-terrorism and special reconnaissance unit within JSOC.
Originally formed in response to growing terrorist threats in the late 1970s, DEVGRU has evolved into one of the world’s most elite special operations forces, specializing in hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, and direct action against high-value targets.

CLASSIFIED: Squadron Structure
DEVGRU is organized into seven color-coded squadrons: Red (Assault), Blue (Assault), Gold (Assault), Silver (Assault), Black (Boat/Vehicle), Gray (Intelligence/Recon), and Green (New Operator Training).
Each assault squadron contains approximately 50 operators divided into troops and teams. Selection involves a 6-month Green Team training pipeline with an 80-90% attrition rate, open only to experienced SEALs with at least 5 years of service.
