Unit Overview
The 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, commonly known as Delta Force, is the U.S. Army’s premier Tier 1 special missions unit specializing in counter-terrorism, direct action, and national intervention operations.
Based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Delta Force operates under the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and maintains the highest state of readiness for global deployment. The unit’s existence was officially acknowledged by the Pentagon only in recent decades.

Historic Operations
Delta operators participated in the “Black Hawk Down” incident, conducting a daylight raid to capture Somali warlord lieutenants.
The failed Iranian hostage rescue mission that led to significant reforms in U.S. special operations capabilities.
Continuous operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Africa targeting high-value terrorists and insurgent networks.
CLASSIFIED: Selection Process
Delta Force selection, known as “The Assessment,” is open to all Army personnel regardless of MOS. The month-long process tests physical endurance, mental resilience, land navigation, and problem-solving under extreme stress.
Candidates who pass Assessment attend the 6-month Operator Training Course (OTC), where failure rates remain exceptionally high. Successful graduates join one of Delta’s specialized squadrons: Assault, Recon/Sniper, or Aviation.
